Magnetic Mass Probes - provide a means of determining residual steel thickness where the section has been damaged by corrosion. In principle, it is a sophisticated covermeter measuring the equivalent of variation in bar size where the cover is constant, by measuring the resistance to any currents induced in the steel. Radar is needed to profile the dimension and location of the steel sections first, where little is known of their form, but relative measurements can be made through solid sections.
